HOW TO GIVE A PRESENTATION LIKE STEVE JOBS

Steve Jobs makes presentations like no other. He dazzles crowds each year at the Macworld Conferernece & Expo. How does he do it? Lets look at some ways in how he can contiually wow the audience.

Sell them what they need-Its not enough to sell a product. So tht’s why Steve Jobs sells just more than a product, he sells an experience. He translates the specific infos and baffling statistics to simply what his product can o to benefit his customers. When Jobs first introduced the first Intel based Mac notebook he began by saying, ” What does this mean?”

He explained that the notebook had two processors, but then transitioning it to reveal how his new product was four to five times faster than the Powerbook G4, a “screamer” as he excitedly called it. You could see that Jobs was not trying to sell the product’s technology, but what the technology could do for his audience.

Provide an outline- Jobs always outlined the presentation by saying, “There are four things I want to talk about today. So let’s get started…” Not only does this give a clear structure of what he would talk about, but it also makes clear and smooth transitions in between. To illustrate, when Jobs introduced several news iPhone features, he said, “The iPhone is not standing still. We keep making it better and better and better. That was the second thing I wanted to talk about today. No. 3 is about iTunes.” Make lists and provide your audience with guideposts along the way.

Forget the Bulletpoints! Have you ever realized that there are no bullet points in a Steve Jobs presentation? Jobs, instead uses pictures and images to help his audience envision his products. For example, when Jobs explained the thiness of the MacBook Air, Jobs used a picture of an office envelope with a notebook sticking out. Its pictures such as these that help convey to the audience the power and beauty of Apple products in an effective and simply manner.

Surprise them! At the end of each presentation Steve Jobs adds an extra teaser by saying ” and one more thing”. He then either adds a new feature, product, or sometimes introduces a band. In other words, Jobs gives an encore after his presentation, and whipping the audience into a frenzy with that “one more thing”!

In conclusion, with a few of these points to consider when you make a presentation, you can be sure that you are on the road to making a presentation as good as Steve Jobs.
